Influencers and Pyramid Scheme

It is no secret that many companies use social media influencers to promote their products. This trend has grown in the recent years and seems almost impossible to escape from.

I think it is very smart of company’s to use influencers to promote products. People often feel like they know the people they follow on social media. This makes people feel like they can trust the influencers opinion. Many large influencers do make sure the products they promote are up to par with the quality of their personal brand but not all do, especially the lower level influencers.

Lower lever influencers seem to promote any products that will pay for promotion or give them free merchandise. These people are not trust worthy and I don’t understand how it actually helps promote the product if sketchy people promote it. These promotions make me think of a pyramid scheme.

Have pyramid schemes also been in existence? When did they become a trend? Please comment if you know more about pyramid schemes because they have sparked my curiosity. Also, fell free to comment if you agree with my influencer pyramid scheme observation.
