Influencers and Pyramid Scheme

It is no secret that many companies use social media influencers to promote their products. This trend has grown in the recent years and seems almost impossible to escape from.

I think it is very smart of company’s to use influencers to promote products. People often feel like they know the people they follow on social media. This makes people feel like they can trust the influencers opinion. Many large influencers do make sure the products they promote are up to par with the quality of their personal brand but not all do, especially the lower level influencers.

Lower lever influencers seem to promote any products that will pay for promotion or give them free merchandise. These people are not trust worthy and I don’t understand how it actually helps promote the product if sketchy people promote it. These promotions make me think of a pyramid scheme.

Have pyramid schemes also been in existence? When did they become a trend? Please comment if you know more about pyramid schemes because they have sparked my curiosity. Also, fell free to comment if you agree with my influencer pyramid scheme observation.

Netflix vs Hulu – Fyre

Last year there was a huge music festival planned to take place in the Bahamas. The festival looked like nothing ever created before. All the biggest models and influencers promoted the festival and claimed to be going. The marketing for the festival was amazing and ultimately led to the rediculsy priced festival to sell out. When people showed up to the festival, it was a disaster. People had to sleep in broken tents with barley any food or water. It was far from the luxury festival the guests were promised. The music festival was arguably the biggest music festival fail in history. Netflix and Hulu each created a documentary on the epic disaster.

I watched both documentaries over the weekend. I enjoyed both of the documentaries but each had different strengths. The Hulu documentary gave a deeper background of the man in charge of the festival, who commented fraud, and had taped interviews with him. The Hulu documentary did not give many specific details about the festival, it focused more on the creator.

The Netflix documentary did not give as much information on the creators past but gave much more information on the actual festival. It did not have any interviews with the creator but it did have more interviews with people involved in the festival. It also gave more information on what happened after the festival and how the creator continued to fraud people despite being caught.

Overall, I am glad that I watched both documentaries because I learned many interesting things unique to each documentary. If I had to chose one to recommend to a friend, I would recommend the Netflix documentary. I chose the Netflix documentary because it gave more interesting details.

Trying Something New

Over the past few days, I’ve been seeing many posts about mousse cakes on social media. The cakes look delicious and beautiful but look very complicated to make. The cakes are made by pouring mousse into silicone molds and laying different mousses, fillings and cakes in the mold to create a unique center.

I purchased different types of silicone molds and found a good-looking mousse recipe and started my journey. My cake would have three layers: A center of Nutella, a layer of chocolate mousse and a layer of hazelnut mousse. I had to use three different molds, one for each layer.

The cake was not as difficult to make as I originally expected but was time consuming. The flavor of the mousse cake was good but was too sweet for my tasting. I definitely plan on attempting to make these mouse cakes again but next time I plan on making a fruity flavor.
